Summer is in Full Swing!

HerrinFesta is over, and the Italian flags have come down, only to be replaced with our own Old Glory, to celebrate Flag Day and the Fourth of July.  The hydrangeas are bursting with blue and lavender blossoms, and the geraniums lining the walkway are flourishing too.  At Mary's, we bring the summer inside as well, by shopping at the local Farmer's Market.  We will be searching for zucchinis, tomatoes, and peppers.  Strawberries are ripe in Southern Illinois right now, and will be available until the third week in June, so come in and have a bowl of our fresh strawberry shortcake, made with flaky delicious pie pastry, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, and topped with  Amaretto- laced whipped cream. 

As a salute to summer, Mary's menu for the month is featuring a side dish of grilled fresh zucchini drizzled with balsamic vinegar.  For an appetizer, try the bruschetta topped with tomatoes, garlic, roasted red peppers and basil.  These summer days are what memories are made of - swinging in the hammock under a shade tree, taking a cool dip in the pool, watching a game of baseball at the park, and planning that family vacation.  Be sure to add dinner or lunch at Mary's to the season's activities.  Come in for dinner and let us bring you a Margarita, or a Strawberry Daiquiri.  If you are celebrating an anniversary, think about Mary's Bed and Breakfast for a relaxing getaway.  Whatever your summer plans, we look forward to being a part of them.
